To commemorate the centenary of World War I, Sunderland Intergenerational Singers (SinGs) based at The Donnison School Heritage and Education Centre came together with Sunderland Jubilate Choir and The Northern Youth Choir, to record this unique and inspiring song, The Birds. Supported by Janette Hilton of Living History North East, Katherine Lowe of Banyan Arts and recorded at The Bunker in Sunderland, this truly is a creative partnership for Sunderland.

The Birds was written by the gifted and talented young people of The Canny Bunch Theatre group including Arran Bell and Kate Hilton, who were responsible for the music and lyrics of the song.

The arrangement was created by Choir Director Sam Jordan, who was accompanied on piano by young musicians Drew Conley and Anna Defty.
