Group Visits

A group tour and a talk by one of our local historians is a delightful way to experience this unique Georgian School for Girls.  Find out about this important heritage site and enjoy its delightful walled garden.  You will also have time to browse in our shop to take away a small momento of your visit. The Donnison School site is accessible by wheelchair and tours can include refreshments if desired. 

Tour prices start at £5.00 per person for the visit and a tea / coffee with a biscuit.

GroupVisit

School Visits

Experienced historians and teachers at the Donnison School have created and designed a series of one day visits for schoolchildren.  These immersive experiences encourage children to imagine what their lives would have been like in earlier times, learning about history in an interactive and fun way, away from their normal classroom environment.

 

Victorian School Day Experience in an authentic setting; children will dress up in period costume, explore what was happening in Victorian England and experience what a Victorian school lesson was really like.

World War II Childhood Memories Experience; children will develop their knowledge and understanding of childhood in WWII, will explore the impact of War on local communities of children and dress up to take part in an evacuation experience.

 

Victorian Herbs and Remedies Experience; using the outside walled garden, groups of children will explore the herbs in the side garden and find out how they were used in the past and are still used today.

HeritageTour

Book a Local Heritage Tour around the East End of Sunderland.  Explore the history and heritage of Old Sunderland and discover the gems on your doorstep. Our guides are all experienced historians, brimming with information about the area and its people. This walk takes in aspects of our virtual Sunderland Heritage Trail, packed with information about Sunderland as it was in Victorian times.

£5 per person.  Tours include refreshments and are suitable for all ages.

 

Book our Local Heroes and Villain's Tour. Meet those characters that bring history to life. A walk through Sunderland's historic East End with some of its most infamous characters.  This fun tour is peppered with real live characters from the past, brought to life again to tell you their 'story' from Peggy Potts to the infamous graverobbers Burke and Hair known to have frequented these parts in the early nineteenth century.

£5 per person. Tours include refreshment's and are suitable for all ages.

Afternoon Teas with Illustrated History Talks

Would you like to sit in our charming Donnison School classroom and enjoy a delicious afternoon tea while listening to an illustrated history talk by one of our experienced historians?? 
Why not book a lovely afternoon visit for your group with an entertaining talk and a vintage themed cream tea? 


£13 per person.  (special dietary requirements may be extra)
